Come to two consecutive meetings at PTO and you are a voting member!
Presidents: Cedrine Bell
Treasurer: Stephanie Hodge
Recording Secretary: Sarah Evans
Meeting called to order by President Cedrine Bell at 6:36
Attendance: There were 14 number of members in attendance. No guests in attendance.
Principal Report: 6:37 – 6:40
School enrollment task force: Hardy is in capital budget so we won’t be getting modular in playground. We will be building permanent expansion. Talk about four rooms first (maybe two later) vs all six now.
Cafeteria - how to expand. Can’t push out to Lake Street because it is partially underground. And not worth the money to take out stage. Options:
- Take cafeteria wall down and extend out into show-it-off alley. But that would cut off building so all would have to go up and down stairs if café busy.
- How to use smaller spaces if we get six rooms? Will probably get teacher room space and conference rooms – can that be alternative lunch spaces? For kids who don’t do well in cafeterias so maybe that is the quiet space? This is the don’t make space bigger but make it alternative space for lunch? Book club? Math Club? Quiet club? Alternative lunch space. Con: lots of scheduling!
- Remove staircase behind the stairs – the middle staircase. That is removed and café is bumped back.
Question: Move kitchen to another location? Not sure if that was an option. KD will check.
KD: If I start lunch at 10:30 (like Thompson) and have six lunches you can have one grade per lunch. But even with one grade, its cozy! Her goal: six new rooms and no café wall torn down (expanding into the hallway).
Enrichment—Thanks to PTO, Terry Holt, Stephanie Hodge and Cedrine Bell for helping plan the programs. Next up. Laser Team bullying in March, Beantown Jumpers. Nice to mix in with Spirit Assemblies.
MCAS is a big window this year so tough to plan stuff.
Valentines: Candy yes or no? Not outlawed but if child gets candy then family can sort at home.
Treasurer REPORT: 6:58
Mini grants a huge success. Music department and library took advantage. Kindergarten got sand tables (still need more sand and locks).

Movie Night: $150! (more than last year)
Alternative Fundraiser $13,500
Enrichment: Anti-bullying laser team: lights out and laser show (initiatives from school). What to do if you see bullying, be bullied, etc.
Reimbursements: Any expense – we need cheap! Discounts! Please look for the cheaper options when possible.
NOTE: If reimbursement is more than last year, why? And talk to PTO President.
Amazon Smile: .05% return
Amazon Affiliates Program – 4-6% return - and increases with amount spent. For awhile wondering where is that money?
