Treasurer Report at 6:38 - 6:45p by Stephanie Hodges
I’ll probably need seven minutes. In our account we have $28,000. $15,000 saving and $13,000 checking.
2500 science camp
4500 supplemental savings for 18 teachers (using the Dec. 1 deadline as motivation – get $250 instead of $200)
1100 ice cream
$11000 in 31 days.
In 2014 $15416 at this time
In 2015 $15000 at this time
So we are on a really great track to make a lot of cash this year.
The PTO needs to be more transparent about what we are spending money on - everyone wants to know their donations are put to good use. Money from last year is being spent on:
Larger screen for gym
New ukuleles for Mr. Ham!
How to divvy up money for projects and such. We need more integrity in process. Maybe a grant system? More fair and more responsible in process. Four grant categories : community, technology, classroom enrichment. Teachers will decide where fits into and how it helps, how many students benefit, vendors, research, costs. That way, we as PTO can spend time reviewing it.
Mr. Hamm will be a lab rat of grant process. He needs new drums. He will be submitting paperwork.
Several matches on giving from folks in Alternative Fundraiser. Everyone should check with their companies to see if they have a matching program for charity donations.
The PTO received, again, the Big Yellow Bus grant. This means the bus costs for fieldtrips are covered!
Enrichment is still $5000 but may increase it. –Terry is heading up the process. Needs help.
- Terry is researching and meeting with Kristen
- Cost for various enrichment categories and deadline dates
- In December meeting – she will say 5k is fine or we need more than 5k
- January is first month for spending!
Reimbursement for upcoming event.
If you don’t know if you are at budget or something – let us know. Just keep us in the loop. Receipts in a timely matter is great.
Cedrine comments on the music : 3rd graders learn the recorder and 5th learn drumming. In 4th grade there is nothing. So Mr. Hamm had mentioned ukuleles. Then kids can try three different kinds of instruments. from 3-5 grades.
Principal Report at 6:55-7:04p from Kristen DeFrancisco
-Expansion. Brief conversation that if all goes as plans – then third grade may grow from three classes to four classes for 2017-18. That would mean K, 1, 2, 3 would each have four classes.
I don’t want to lose after school in the expansion. But they have a class they don’t use until 1p so maybe music is in the smaller afterschool room and then music room becomes another classroom. Until we figure out how to get all the kids in classrooms during the day.
Sarah: Speaking for parents who are HASP fans, what can we do to voice our support of expanding their program along with the school expansion plans.
KD: Afterschool Todd would need to hire more people. And the the school expansion is primarily for classrooms. At issue with more than 100 kids is the small shared common space that isn't expanding. When the bell rings, 100 kids stay and other kids jockey for space while waiting for buses, HASP, Kidzone and such. Technically HASP doesn't pay for space other than their main room. If parents have any questions, concerns or support statements about HASP - email to Kristen. She will compile them and deliver to superintendent. Later may be worth going direct super. But right now, the process isn't far enough along.
-Kristen new newsletter format: spotlight by grade, things you should know. The newsletter will be shorter and more quick hits. First one on Friday. She wants the communication to be worth it. Give her feedback on new look.
-Construction equipment. Went away and came back. They had one more sill to fix. Waiting for a part. Lots of apologies from head of facilities but no movement on machine. Went away for a day and then came back. Hopefully in the end, the leak will be gone along with machine.
The Professional Development this year we are focusing on writing is going well. Feels focused and a nice through line between meetings, communications, curriculum. Focus is writing. Math was the focus for awhile. Purpose is to vertically align for kids to strengthen their writing skills along many different subjects.
Halloween characters. Neat day for us to see characters. Teachers dressed up.
Cedrine Notes 7:05p
Community Outreach volunteer. Anyone? We need someone on the board!
-Tent: We are looking to buy a tent for future events. Buying in the spring.
-Screens: Kristen isn’t getting much help from facilities. Cedrine is researching – if too sunny get one that addresses glare. We are looking to get Dallin’s screen so asking them. Shouldn’t be more than a couple thousand.
-Speakers: One of the dad specializes in car sound systems. He will be recruited to make suggestions. The gym could use speakers for assemblies.
K sand tables: ready to buy
Thank you! Book fair is coming along so thanks to Sarah, Sarah and Holly. Before Book Fair, did everyone get the Thanksgiving Drive? Most did, yes. Kristen has announced the drive. Most people bring food but some bring gift cards. The dessert thing – people do bring pie. They will open box quite a few times.

Enrichment. At assemblies, kindergarten can’t really sustain attention. So the older and younger kids should be separate. We do have one all-school for total school. Sarah Boulet is helping Terry with this project.
