Principal’s report from 6:40-6:55 (KD)
I will be chatting about scholarships for camp. Our picture day went well. We have a make up day schedule. Open house is Thursday from 6-8. Alerts have gone out via email and backpack mail. Teachers are a bit worried about their just 30 minutes. Parents will be seeing where kids are spending their day. Less about curriculum and more about meet/greet.
Huge thanks to Zambardinos who printed the parent resource book. Anthony met with her and did the project at cost. “Here is the book and I’m so excited.” If you see a typo, no one is allowed to tell me. School council, spec ed, teachers worked hard to get this done. Families can get one at registration on Thursday. All others will get them mailed. This will improve communication – letting folks about how we do things.
Space. Where are the kids going to go? Up to 425 now. Next year we are fine with enough classrooms for 16-17. We will probably need a 2 and 5 grade teacher. We will loose our wiggle room. Also, teachers go back to small room L
Sept 24th was a big space meeting. Lots of different “schemes”. 2017-18 : what happens? Most likely where kindergarten enters stairs – that will be the add on area. Could be permanent rooms or modules. We don’t know what it will be but lots of talk about what it looks like. Bids went out on Sept 15th for fixing playground. Issue: do we fix it a lot right now or wait until new build and make a new one.
Space in gym and café. Already running double gym classes. Meaning two gym classes at once. But café – we don’t use the stage. We’ll most likely use the stage space. How to use the stadium seating J More updates to PTO in future.
JS: Open House: No schedule for visiting classroom?
KD: Teachers presenting together (vs in a class). They will be in a location like art room. Then at the end, parents walk into classrooms and see the rooms. Other times during the evening to go to classes.
All grade levels joint presenting. Indoor arrival went great.
Make up day for photos: one of the book fair days. Nov. 19th Thursday.
6:55-7:30 Thank yous (Cédrine)
Jenn Irving – great ice cream social!
Jenn Roderick – picture day thank you!
Moya – Amazing harvestfest! Donuts – going through five dozen in a half hour. 30 dozen gone!
Room Parent update (Jill Swilling)
Last month new way of recruiting – went well. We have about half at deadline. And next week email went out so we got more and then FB page helped. 13 classrooms are set. 5 classes left with just one: Morodono, Doughtery, Connors, Trivino. One has just one but she likes to work alone. Sliney has no room parents!
EVENTS and COMMITTEES
Back-to-school night (Thurs. Oct. 8th, 6-8 p.m.)—has everyone made a sign-up sheet with description of event? If you are running an event – write up a sheet. So possible volunteers can sign up!
Book Fair (Fri. Nov. 16th-Fri. Nov. 20th) Amy Reese & Jill Swilling.
What is it? Set up in library – racks of books. Kids visit during day and can buy if they bring money from home. $1600 raised last year. Classes visit during their normal library time during the week.
Extended Tuesday 1-2p. Thurs night 6-7:30pm. Friday morning – parents only 8:15-9:00a.
On Thursday – always an author night in past. This year, no author night. Evening hours still but a book store café. You shop, social and be social. Give it a try this year. Katie Garrett is spearheading the evening stuff.
Need book fair bakers! Other ways to volunteer: Train as a cashier! Need 2-3 people during the school day. Setting up the Friday 13th after school from 2:30-4:30. Take down Friday 20th from 9-10:30a. Parents for childs’ library class time.
We are working on a super signup genius. Stay tuned! Also a backpack flyer. And VP and Room Parents will send out sign-up genius in early November. Same vendor as last year.
Author Night (During Book Fair? Chapter book author?) : Not happening this year. KD: maybe this is an enrichment? Writing is our thing.
Giving “Wall” (2 weeks following Thanksgiving) Amy Reese & 5th Graders – the only change was a lot of large ticket items. Now you can donate money toward gifts. Otherwise PTO might spend some money.
Hour of Code – week of Dec. 14
Movie Night (Jan.) - 2nd Grade Ann Chhabra and Moya Charig. Moved up to use same permit as last year and save money.
Dance/Beach Party (Feb.) Katie Garrett, Melissa Jacobs, Shannon Guiney.
Literacy Night (March) – for k-2nd – guests come in to read books. Usually a theme.

-Deadline for incentive with annual appeal – enter raffle for sweatshirt?
