I hope that you all had a relaxing break. First of all, I understand that a lot of parents and children are upset over the loss of the trees on the playground, especially since our school has so much pavement and it gets so hot in the warmer months. If you would like to see trees replanted on the playground area but in more appropriate spaces, please contact me or come to the next PTO meeting. It only takes the effort of a few Hardy parents to get tasks accomplished; just look at our Hardy enrollment committee.
Speaking of which, if you have yet to follow what is going on with the challenges of overcrowding in the Arlington schools, I urge you to sign up for the Hardy google group. If you are already on it, tell your friends. The Hardy enrollment committee does an amazing job at keeping everyone updated on the happenings at the various town and school committee meetings. Every child, whether in Kindergarten or in 5th grade is going to be affected by the huge enrollment growth and lack of classroom and facilities space. Please follow the link here to stay informed:
Unfortunately, lice are in our school. It is not a seasonal problem or one that goes away. As much as we hate them, they are “just” a nuisance and not the next pandemic. However, when, night after night, you’re stuck picking your kids’ heads, it is overwhelming. I am happy to contact Nitwits to come do a presentation on how to get rid of lice in your home. They bring in protocols to follow and freebies to take home. But I will need you to show up. Last time our nurse, Cara Dalton, brought them in, 2 parents showed up. Please fill out the quick survey to let me know if you are interested in coming and if so, when is the best time. If none of the times/dates on the list are good, let me know when would be best.

As many of you know, Arlington EATS was founded in May of 2014 to help make sure that the over 500 students in our area who receive free and reduced price lunch during the school day, still have enough to eat when school is out. Last year Arlington EATS and the 300+ volunteers who make the program possible, provided more than 5000 summer meals, served over 7000 snacks and distributed over 34,000 pounds of fresh produce and rescued food for the weekends. It's been a lot of work and a lot of fun!
And on Saturday, March 5th, the Town is going to celebrate this work and hopefully raise some money to feed even more kids. So book your babysitters now and join us!
