I hope that you are all enjoying the Spring-like weather. We have a few events coming up with a variety of volunteering opportunities. I hope that you will take advantage of those and get to meet some other members of the Hardy community. Meanwhile, we do have a tree replanting committee led by Mark Pattin, father of a 1st grader. I’m waiting on replanting parameters from Ms. DeFrancisco and then our committee can go ahead. Next, progress is being made on the overcrowding issue with both Thompson and Ottoson. It is now time for Hardy School to be heard. Please check out both the Facebook page and our own Hardy Google group as to how you can help out.
Lastly, don’t forget about the AEF Trivia Bee. I do not think we have a Hardy team. Please grab a couple friends a make one. Unfortunately, trivia is not my thing. There are other community notes at the end, one regarding basketball opportunities for girls, t-ball/baseball as well as the football and cheerleading opportunities (see attachment for the last 2).

Teacher Appreciation Week is coming to Hardy March 28-April 1! Each day during the week the teachers and staff will be treated to special surprises as a way to thank them for all of their hard work with our children! The schedule of events is as follows: Monday - teachers will enjoy a potted herb plant delivered to their classroom in honor of how they season the lives our children! Tuesday - the teachers and staff will be greeted with an apple and a special "thank you" as they arrive to school. Wednesday - the teachers and staff enjoy a delicious catered lunch! Thursday - a celebratory Ice Cream Social after school! Friday - a delicious breakfast sponsored by Principal, Kristin DeFrancisco!
A sign up genius will be posted shortly (to website) with some needed supplies/extras for the week. Also, you should be hearing from your class' room parents with more information regarding honoring your specific teachers! Arlington Girls Basketball Spring 2016
Within Arlington, fewer girls have been participating in winter athletics during the last couple of years, particularly in the sport of basketball. Of the 320 players participating in the town’s popular local youth basketball league this winter, only 39 are girls!
These numbers are of particular concern given that the benefits of female participation in athletics extend well beyond the court. Studies have shown girls who play sports get better grades, have higher levels of confidence and self-esteem, and have a more positive body image than those that do not play sports.
To increase interest, both the Arlington Girls and Boys Girls Club (ABGC) and Arlington Recreation are organizing basketball programs specifically for girls during early spring 2016.
The ABGC will be running a basketball league for girls 8-12 years old.
ABGC teams will play a game each week on Tuesdays at 5PM or 6PM from March 15th thru April 26th.
Arlington Recreation is offering an instructional basketball clinic for girls in Grades 1-8
on Sunday evenings 5-6:30PM, March 13 - May 1.
Registration, location, cost, and additional information are provided at the end of this Email. The goal of both programs is to introduce more Arlington girls to the game of basketball. Both the Arlington Recreation clinic and the ABGC league place an emphasis on fun and are designed to accommodate players at any level of experience or skill.
Hopes are for a high number of registrations. If the clinic and league are successful, Arlington Recreation and the ABGC are more likely to offer additional girl specific basketball programs in the future. Girls ages 8-12 are encouraged to consider signing up for both the clinic and league, though neither program is a pre-requisite for the other. A player can choose to sign-up for the ABGC league and opt not to participate in the Arlington Recreation clinic. Similarly, a player can choose to participate in the clinic and opt not to join the league.
Look forward to seeing the girls on the court in March!
ABGC Spring Girls Basketball League
An intramural league designed for fun and stresses the importance of individual and team sportsmanship. The most important concept in our program is that we play to have fun. Everyone Plays! Fundamentals are emphasized. Focus is placed on cooperation, not competition. This program fosters respect for everyone and a clear understanding of the rules by players, coaches, referees and parents. Games will be played at 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM.
Ages: Girls 8-12
Dates: Tuesdays March 15, 22 and 29, April 5, 12 and 26
Time: Weekly games starting at 5:00pm or 6:00pm
Where: Arlington Girls and Boys Club
Cost: $55 for members of the ABGC. (Cost of annual ABGC membership is only $25.)

Arlington Recreation Spring Girls Basketball Clinic
Amanda Mortelette, AHS Girls varsity coach and members of the AHS Varsity team are proud to offer the Arlington High School Girls Basketball Clinic. Fundamental instruction in small group sessions to improve the knowledge and skill of each player while providing an enjoyable learning experience, and providing life lessons in sportsmanship, leadership and self awareness will be the emphasis.

Baseball Tee Ball Age 5 & 6 (Age of child on April 30)
This Instructional League is intended to teach basic skills (throw, hit, catch flies, field grounders, and run bases) to small groups of boys and girls. The first half of each session is devoted to instruction. The second half of each session is used for game playing using a batting tee. Tee ball team’s practice/play on Saturday and Sunday afternoons from 3:00PM to 4:30PM at various fields throughout the town. Rosters will be set around mid April and the first session will be the first weekend of May and ends on Father's Day weekend in June. Rosters are generally based on school districts. Registration fee is $160.00
Baseball Double A (AA) Ages 6 & 7 (Age of child on April 30)

This league is for Eight year olds. The purpose of the league is to be slightly more competitive than AA with more of the rules of the Major division. This age group will participate in a try-out/evaluation late March. After the try-out there will be a selection process to construct rosters base on talent and school district. The rosters will be finished by the early April and practices will begin soon after. Game will start after the April school vacation and end late June. There will be 2 to 3 games a week with one being on the weekend. Start times during the week will be 5:30PM. Registration fee $220.00
Baseball Niners Age 9 (Age of child on April 30)
This age group will participate in a try-out in late February/early March After the will be drafted on to Niners League teams. The number of teams Niner's league will be determined by the number of children who sign-up. The rosters will be finished by the middle to end of March and practices will begin late March, early April. Game will start during the April school vacation and end late June. There will be 2 to 3 games a week with one being on the weekend. Start times during the week will be 5:30PM, 5:45PM, or 7:30PM. Registration fee is $220.00.
Baseball Triple A (AAA)/Majors Ages 10 thru 12 (Age of child on April 30)
This age group will participate in a try-out in late February unless they were on a Major league team last year then they are only required to register. After the try-out there will be a draft to fill the 10 Major league rosters. After the Major draft the remaining 10 to 12 year olds will be drafted on to the AAA teams. The number of teams in the AAA will be determined by the number of children who sign-up. The rosters will be finished by the middle to end of March and practices will begin late March, early April. Game will start during the April school vacation and end late June. There will be 2 to 3 games a week with one being on the weekend. Start times during the week will be 5:30PM, 5:45PM, or 7:30PM. Registration fee is $220.00.
Softball Minors ages 7-9 year (Age of the child on December 31 the year before the season to be played.)
Girls ages 7, 8, and 9. This is a developmental league. The season will start with coach pitch and eventually develop into player pitch. Focus will be on fundamentals and learning the game. Teams will be compiled by the league director and managers. Games will be held 2-3 times a week and will include weekends. There will be pre-season practices and clinics during the season. Managers may include practices during the season. Managers will reach out to parents to assist with the team. Space will be limited to maintain reasonable size rosters, a waitlist will be started at that point. Registration fee is $190.00.
Softball Majors age 10-12 year Fastpitch (Age of the child on December 31 the year before the season to be played.)
This is a competitive league for girls ages 10 to 12, players pitch, play six innings with patched umps, with some modified rules. Games are played 2-3 games a week and may include a Saturday. Pre-season practices will be scheduled and practices will be scheduled during the season also by the manager. There will be a tryout for all new players in early March, practices will start end of March beginning of April. League games will open the beginning weekend of April vacation and end with playoffs the end of June. Space will be limited to maintain reasonable size rosters, a waitlist will be started at that point.Registration fee is $210.00.
